Back in October 2009 the Marc VDS Racing Team allowed us to iOpener Enable the first ever FIA GT race in history, bringing the epic series live to the homes of thousands of gamers. Marc VDS driver Bas Leinders drove the legendary 5 liter V8 Matech Ford GT1 during the qualification sessions allowing the RTR beta testers to drive against him in their mission to try and beat a professional driver from within a game in real-time.
Today the team released a video of the action including various interviews with iOpener and Simbin staff.
The video shows you detailed ingame footage where the gamer car chases the live car, equipped with our patented GPS technology, around Circuit Zolder. iOpener's product manager Christophe Dujarric explains the concept of iOpener Enabled gaming while our hardware engineer Ivo op het Veld gives you a closer look into the cockpit of the Matech Ford and shows how we make it possible to send the live data from the track directly to the gamers at home.
Henrik Roos, ex-FIA GT Driver and the CEO of SimBin Studios, was present during the event to test the iOpener Enabled feature embedded in his Real-Time Racing game and explains how people in the future can compete against the world's best drivers without having to own a race car themselves.
As always we would love to hear your feedback and don't hesitate to send the RTR Crew an e-mail with your views.
