FIA WTCC: Tom Coronel scores a podium in Monza

With a second place in the second race of the Monza round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship dutch driver Tom Coronel managed to secure his best finish of the season.

The mechanics of the SR Sport team had to do overtime as they had to replace the TDI engine of the Seat Leon directly after the free practice. This left him barely enough time to clock a time in the first qualification session but none the less a respectable P12 was the result.

After a carefully driven race 1, where other drivers suffered from severe tirewear and last lap punctures due to the high temperatures that the tires develop, a fantastic fifth position was Coronel's part resulting in valuable points for the championship.

In the second race Coronel managed to stay out of trouble in the first chicane and quickly consolidated a promising third place behind ex-world champion Yvan Muller from France in his Chevrolet Cruze. After race leader Nykjaer had to retire because of a puncture the second spot on the podium was up for grabs for the newly appointed jury member of the WTCC Car Skin Contest 2010.

Tom is now classified in fifth position overall in the championship and is already looking forward  to the next round on Circuit Zolder in Belgium he told on his official website: "I see Zolder as my official home race where I want to score well".
